Announcement (01/12/26)
Several members have asked about the lack of recent updates on the website and the reason for the absence of new information. The following is a factual summary of the situation.
At the first meeting of the newly formed Board of Directors, a proposal was made for the website to be controlled by the Board. While the President expressed appreciation for the existing member-managed website, the remaining Board members voted in favour of a Board-controlled approach by a 2–1 decision. I was asked to transfer control of the member-managed website, which I declined based on governance and transparency concerns at this time.
In September 2024, a meeting was held with members to discuss improving transparency, education, and communication, including the need for a member representative on the Board and preparation for the transition from a developer-controlled Board to a member-controlled Board. With member support, I developed and maintained a website intended to serve as an information repository, provide documentation for legal and real estate purposes, and track member concerns and resolutions, consistent with by-law requirements. This work was performed over more than a year and funded personally.
When the site was created, the intention was to eventually transfer ownership to the Corporation after the Board had fully transitioned and settled in but I have concerns about giving this Board exclusive control of member communications. Transparency and open access to information are widely recognized as contributing to effective governance and a well-informed membership. Currently, there are still influences on the board that have a conflict of interest which I believe should be resolved first. Further, the manner in which the board approached the website takeover request was disrespectful, uncivilized and tyrannical leading me to feelings of reservations.
At this time, the Board has chosen not to provide information or documentation for publication on the existing website. Although requests for information can continue to be made, progress is dependent on Board cooperation. While I had hoped to revisit the conversation of transferring ownership under better circumstances, it is anticipated that the Board may establish its own website to distribute information at its discretion. In the meantime, this site will continue to host the current documents, any documents that the board chooses to provide, any concerns you may want to share (provided they are civil and constructive) and any events that you wish to advertise.
Members who wish to express concerns or seek clarification regarding communication practices or governance transparency are encouraged to contact the Board directly.
